Background

Problem based learning (PBL) is a self-directed method that helps learners develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and enhances their aptitude. Knowledge is acquired in a dynamic, self-directed way rather than the “teacher teaching” way.

The objective of the study was to measure the effectiveness of a three-day workshop in changing faculties' knowledge, skills and attitude towards PBL.

Methods

A descriptive design with pre-test and post-test examined a convenience sample of 23 health professions faculties of the Institute of Medicine, Tribhuvan University, its affiliated institutions and others across Nepal.

Conclusion

The PBL workshop training was highly effective in changing the faculties' knowledge, skills and attitude towards the integration of PBL in their classes. This training may help to move from the traditional way of thinking to PBL for future implementation.
